What are some of the things that you think of when you think of summer? I hope that when you think of summer, you think of wonderful things. Maybe it’s gardening- with beautiful flowers and home-grown veggies. Maybe it’s leisure time- hanging by the pool, having a fun picnic, reading a book, taking a nap and feeling the soft summer breeze. Maybe it’s adventure- with hikes, camping, and vacation. Maybe it’s spending more time with family and friends. I hope that you are looking forward to summer, and all of the possibilities summer can offer.
All of the wonderful things about summer are also things that you have to make a choice to do, or see, or experience. Gardens happen with some planning and sweat-equity. Even with other people’s gardens, a choice must be made to slow down to appreciate it. Spending time doing things that are relaxing or enjoyable is a choice (it doesn’t have to cost money!). Spending more time with friends and family is truly wonderful, but even that is a choice to take the time, arrange schedules, and be with one another.
We all make choices, all the time. As we enter into these “lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer,” I hope that you choose to take the time and effort to see some wonderful things- appreciate God’s Creation! I hope that you choose to take the time to relax and refresh, and do some things you love to do. Have fun! I hope that you choose to slow down and “smell the roses,” eat some fresh veggies, go for a walk, and most of all praise God. I encourage all of us to make a choice to spend more time with God this summer.
As you appreciate the beauty and bounty of summer, give thanks! As you connect with family and friends, give thanks and share God’s love! If you are travelling, or your schedule doesn’t work for a Sunday morning, tune in to our online service! Remember your church with your giving, because our church is still running in worship and mission even if you aren’t there. Many things slowdown in the summer, but the church continues to meet and worship. We are blessed to have an opportunity to continue to worship God, no matter what is going on in our lives, no matter where we may go or what we are doing. Make the choice to spend some time with God, wherever you may be, thanking God for it all- God is good!
